About this course
This course covers ATP (adenosine triphosphate) bioluminescence testing, the most widely used rapid method for verifying that a cleaning procedure actually removed organic residue from a food-contact surface. Learners see how the test works, how to run it correctly, and how to interpret the numeric result it produces.
ATP is present in all living cells and organic residue, including food soil, allergenic proteins, and microorganisms. A swab sample is mixed with a reagent that reacts with any ATP present, and a handheld luminometer measures the resulting light output in relative light units (RLUs) — more light means more residual ATP, and therefore more residue left on the surface. Because results are available in seconds rather than the days required for a microbial culture, ATP testing has become a standard prerequisite-program tool for verifying cleaning-in-place (CIP) cycles and manual cleaning before a line restarts production, and it consistently identifies missed residue that a visual "looks clean" inspection does not catch.
This course is designed for QA technicians and sanitation staff responsible for post-cleaning verification and line release decisions.
